About BCSAC
The British Columbia Studies Abroad Consortium (BCSAC) is a consortium of post-secondary institutions in British Columbia that offers short-term international programming and encourages students from other institutions to join in with them and their students while they study abroad.
The consortium allows students access to a much broader range of programs in terms of destinations, disciplines, level of courses, semester of study, pre-requisites and length of program.
Our BCSAC institutions are committed to increasing internationalization at their own institutions and to enabling a much greater level of global citizenry amongst students of British Columbia.
BCSAC functions as a consortium to facilitate the formation of partnerships among BC institutions and between BC institutions and those abroad. We encourage and provide international study opportunities.
Students participating in a program from another institution within BCSAC will still need to make application to that program but will be assisted by the staff from the institution that hosts the international program. They will supply you with all of the information you need in order to transfer those courses back 'home'.
BCSAC Guiding Principles
The following principles are shared by participating institutions:
Internationalization: Study abroad activities will enrich and expand the internationalization of the institution and the communities they serve.
Recognized Credit: All study abroad activities should carry transferable and recognize-able academic credit that students can use towards their educational and career goals at their home institutions. BCSAC programs will draw upon the strength of the British Columbia system of articulation. Whenever possible, credits offered on BCSAC activities will be in the British Columbia Council for Admissions and Transfer Guide.
Flexible Credit: The BCSAC will foster international partnerships to enable flexible credit that recognizes and values international experiences in academic studies, for example, such as elective credit or internships and independent study.
Collective Strength: BCSAC members will be committed to pooling their collective resources and strengths wherever possible to maximize study abroad opportunities and lower the risks for any individual institution.
Access: The BCSAC will enable all eligible students to access study abroad opportunities across the membership, including students from one and two year programs.
