Past Award Winners

The BCCIE International Education Awards Program recognizes the professionalism, dedication and efforts of an exemplary group of experts and practitioners in the diverse field of international education in British Columbia.

Past winners represent the broad range of leaders and practitioners from all parts of the sector and showcase the best and brightest in our province. BCCIE International Education Awards are decided by a peer committee and were awarded in the following categories:

International Education Distinguished Leadership Award

2012 - Patricia Gartland, Coquitlam School District No. 43

2010 - Rod Matheson, West Vancouver School District and Tony Macoun, Mulgrave School 

This award recognizes the unique and important accomplishments and contributions of an international educator or member of the community who has effected change and leadership in the field of international education and whose work will have a lasting impact.

International Education Distinguished Service Award

2012 - Carolyn Russell, University of Victoria
2011 - Vera Wojna
2010 - Katherine Beaumont, University of British Columbia

This award recognizes the unique and important accomplishments and contributions of a member of the international education community. Their years of service to the field of international education have supported the students, activities and broader local community.

Excellence in International Education Marketing Award

2011 - Cyndi McLeod, Royal Roads University
2010 - Rosanne Ng, Capilano University 

This award recognizes innovation and success in support of the education export sector in British Columbia and in the marketing of our world-class education system.

*This award category was formerly the Innovation in International Marketing Award.

Outstanding Program in International Education Award

2012 - SFU Dual Degree Program in Computing Science (Simon Fraser University)
2011 -TRU International Days (Thompson Rivers University)

This award recognizies an institution, district or program with high quality and highly creative programming in international education.

Rising Star in International Education Award

2012 - Caroline Rueckert, University of British Columbia
2011 - Andrea Reynolds, Kwantlen Polytechnic University
2010 - Rebecca Rytir, Simon Fraser University 

This award recognizes tomorrow’s leaders, our up-and-coming talent, and the next generation of leaders and practitioners in the field of international education.

Innovation and Excellence in International Education Award

2012 - "Hope For Youth" Scholarship Program (Languages Canada)

This award recognizes innovation in the field of international education that has led to great results. The recipient shows leadership in both imagining and pursuing new opportunities and ways of doing things within the international education sector.

International Education Lifetime Achievement Award

2012 - Bob Bagshaw

This award recognizes the long-term contributions made and the far-reaching impacts realized over a career of commitment to BC’s international education sector.

Friends of BCCIE Award

2010 - Donna Hooker, Vancouver Community College 

This is a special award recognizing extraordinary contributions to the sector and to advancing the goals, mission and vision of international education in BC.
