Mission to the United Kingdom, Oct. 8-15, 2011

Cities:  London, Edinburgh & Manchester

A BC delegation, comprised of representatives from three universities and BCCIE, participated in a multi-province mission to the UK (including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario).  This was a joint exploratory mission prompted by the recent changes in the UK - most notably the significant increases in the domestic tuition with majority of universities opting to raise their levels to £9000 and reforms to the visa program which will restrict visas being awarded to potential international students and their eligibility to work and live in UK after their studies.  These trends presented an opportunity to draw attention to both domestic and international students in UK on the opportunities to study in Canada.

The mission took place in three cities and activities included education fair, student seminars, meetings with high school counsellors, networking reception and briefings by the Canadian High Commission and the British Council.

Note:   At the Student World Fair in London, BCCIE contingent also included the BC PNP Program representatives who teamed up with BCCIE and the BC institutions to promote study, work and immigration opportunities to prospective students.
