EXCITING CHANGES AT BCCIE
TO SUPPORT NEW MANDATE
Vancouver, BC – February 29, 2012
With BCCIE’s transition approved and in line with its renewed mandate, we are supporting core operational activities and provincial priorities through some exciting changes in staff. This is an excellent time to be involved in international education in British Columbia and we look forward to working together with government, stakeholders and our communities in this common endeavour.
New to BCCIE
- Ms. Karmen Blackwood joined us on February 27 as Director, Stakeholder Relations and Operations. Her role will focus on building sound government, board and community relationships and overseeing office operations. Karmen brings a wealth of financial and corporate experience with her from the private sector, and both educational leadership and program management experience from her tenure at UBC’s Sauder School of Business.
- Mr. Colin Doerr will join BCCIE on March 5 as Director, Communications and Programs. Colin will focus on leading communications, programs, educational stakeholder relationships, market support and professional development. Colin is well-travelled and multi-lingual and has a solid and diverse background in managing university and community-based educational programming at Canada World Youth and at SFU.
- Ms. Nancy Hu will join BCCIE on April 23 in an amalgamated portfolio as Manager, Partnerships and Programs. Nancy will become BCCIE’s dedicated China person, allowing us to maintain a focus on that key global partner. She will also be tasked with choreography and support for professional development events, missions, incoming and outgoing delegations and other core activities such as Summer Seminar. Nancy brings her most recent experience as Program Manager from the UBC / Shanghai Jiaotong MBA Program.

- Ms. Robin Garcha, Coordinator, Programs and Events, will help to build BCCIE’s presence through coordinating professional development events, delegations, mission support and Summer Seminar.
- Mr. Tony Kwan, Coordinator, Communications and Technology, will focus on communications activities and offering in-house support for BCCIE’s technology needs.
